CLASS 31: BAKING - SPECIAL 2010 THEME - “GARLIC” |

1. Display of 4 different items using rolled oats. 2. Theme-decorated cake (max. 8” x 8”) - all parts including decoration must be edible. Judged on appearance only. 3. Cookies in a jar (recipe follows) 2 cups all-purpose flour ½ tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 2-1/2 cups ground oatmeal 8 oz. milk chocolate chips (grind in food processor until very fine) 1-1/2 cups slivered almonds 4 oz. white chocolate chips 1 cup brown sugar ½ cup shredded coconut 1 cup white sugar
In a 2-litre jar, layer the ingredients in the order given. Decorate the jar as a shower gift and attach the following recipe. 1 cup unsalted butter 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla Combine the butter, eggs and vanilla. Add the dry ingredients from the jar and mix well. Roll cookie dough into 2” balls. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 6 minutes on ungreased cookie sheet. 4. Garlic bites displayed in theme-related container - recipe follows 4 oz. self-rising flour 2 oz. butter 2 oz. cheese, grated 2 cloves garlic, crushed 1/2 tsp. dry mustard powder 1 tbsp. cold water Salt Sift flour into a bowl - mix in mustard powder and crushed garlic. Cut butter into flour and rub into crumbs, add a little cheese now and then as you go. Continue to combine the ingredients, adding a little cold water at the end if necessary to get a nice lump of pastry dough. Put dough in refrigerator to rest for 15 minutes. Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured board to form a square about 8” each side. With sharp knife, divide the pastry into eighths in each direction to give 64 small squares. Place on a greased baking tray with a little space between them. Sprinkle a little salt on top. Bake at 400 degrees F for 10 to 15 minutes. |
